Travel Tuesday: Tower Bridge and 60's Exhibition

I have been to London many times but never visited Tower Bridge. Once I found out that there was a 60's photography exhibition I decided this would be the time to go. After stopping off for breakfast at Borough Market we walked by the river towards the bridge.

There was a small queue but it moved quickly and the wait was much shorter than most tourist attractions in London, but maybe that's becasue it was a cloudy day. Once inside there is a video about the history of Tower Bridge. In 1884 the design for the bridge was chosen after over 50 designs were submited. It took 8 years to build, but once it was finished it was the largest and most sophisticated bascule bridge ever completed.

In the East Walkway there is an exhibition called Great Bridges of the World which was really fascinating. There really are some amazing bridges around the world! The exhibition in the West Walkway was The Sixties, with iconic images such as The Beatles, Carnaby Street and Twiggy.

  1. This absolutely sounds like my kind of exhibition! Was it actually IN the bridge building, or... ? Tower Bridge looks so good in black and white ;)

  5. I love love love the London Bridge! The first time I went to London alone was when I was 17 and I went with Luke, we took so many pics of each other on the London Bridge! Then, when I sold my first car, I forgot to swap the ownership and was slapped with a ton of fines for driving over that sodding bridge too fast!! Fortunately I was able to prove it was the new owner, not me, driving!

    1. It's such an iconic bridge isn't it! There were lots of people taking selfies on the bridge! Shame that you got slapped with a load of fines but at least you now have a fun anecdote about the bridge!
